She asked her friends, Buck and Bill, if they wanted to go with her.
"Why do you want to put money into a savings account?" Buck asked Penny.
"Because I'm saving money for a new pair of basketball shoes," replied Penny.
"I keep all my money in a piggy bank," said Bill. "I like to know where my money is!"
"I know where my money is!" said Penny. "It's at the bank. You can save money faster at the bank than you can at home."
Buck shook his head. "No you can't."
"Yes, you can!" answered Penny. "Banks help you save in lots of ways."
"How?" asked Bill.
"Well, when your money is in the bank, you're less likely to spend your money on candy, comic books and other things. That way, you can save up for more expensive things like basketball shoes, a new bike, a new car or even college!"
"You're saving for college?" Buck asked. "You're only in third grade!"
"Now is a great time to start saving for the future," said Penny. "When I get older, I'm going to need money for lots of things. My money grows faster at the bank because the bank pays you for keeping your money there."
"Wow! The bank pays you money for saving money." said Buck. "That's great! I want a savings account!"
"Me too!" added Bill.
